There are THREE kinds of purchase – depending on who you are buying for.
- PRISON INMATE / CHARITY. We offer significant discounts on copies bought for either an inmate or a charity. If you’re buying for an inmate please ensure you watch this short video first
- HMPPS – Again we offer discounts to HMPPS staff, and so if you are purchasing for a member of HMPPS (or on behalf of a prison library) this is the option to choose below to get the right discount.
- PUBLIC PURCHASE – purchasing for a member of the public or a company.
Depending on who you are purchasing for just click the appropriate ‘Add to Basket’ link at the bottom of this page, if you require more than one copy you can change this during the check out process.
Once you click Add to Basket you will then be taken to Romancart, our shopping cart agent, where details of your purchase will be displayed. Once you are satisfied these are correct click ‘Checkout’ and you will be taken to the secure payment screen.

FAQ – Buying for an Inmate? Read on…
Do we know what we’re doing? Yes; we’ve been doing this for over 20 years and we are an approved Ministry of Justice supplier (PSI 30/2013 Annex I – page 65).
Will the prison accept the book? Yes – if it is sent directly from us; you cannot send the book yourself to the prisoner.
Can anyone send the book to an inmate? No. While it is the case that since 31 January 2015, friends and families of prisoners have been allowed to order books for inmates they must only do so from approved retailers – such as ourselves. Approved retailers source and send the books on to prisoners.
You cannot buy The Prisons Handbook for an inmate, have the book sent to you so you can send it to the prisoner – it will not be accepted. The prison will only accept books from approved retailers such as ourselves (as set out in Annex I of PSI 30/2013 (updated August 2015).
