Prison Governors manage prisons and other units, such as young offender institutions. They deal with staff issues including training and discipline. Governors are responsible for security and the overall care, progress and rehabilitation of prisoners. Every prison must have a Prison Governor pursuant to the Prison Act 1952. The following is a list of current Governing Governors and the prisons to which they have been appointed. Please see Section 8 for more information about prison governors and the system of promotion for them and prison staff generally.
